ENGLISH LANGUAGE

My obsession for English language is more than 35 years old.I started learning the language spontaneously since 1975 and the process of learning is still going on.

I was mesmerised by the charismatic appeal of the English language. All the Indians are attracted by English, irrespective of their social standing and age barrier. And it`s an undeniable fact that English language works wonder if spoken easily and confidently. It has the power and and charm to inspire and convince the audience.

I have travelled in land a lot and found that English makes a big difference. With this language combined with politeness and tactfulness you can win over anyone.People respond immediately when we speak English.Being a professor of the language myself ,I found it very attractive and useful.

I get special attention due to the language. It`s really a wonderful language and a very effective means of communication. For me English is my bread n butter.
Even after such a long association with the language I can`t claim to be 100% perfectly correct about its uses.I have committed many mistakes and continue to do so even today sp.in writing and I assume that I won`t be 100% perfect even when I die.

I haven`t seen or heard about any person being 100% perfect in English.I am considered a mobile dictionary by my students. But I know how perfect I am.

I think noone is infallible in English language.I have given many interesting and thought-provoking seminars on English language.I intend to do a tv show on English language for the masses but noone is responding to my requests.

From my 2 decades of experience of teaching I can say that nobody teaches this highly interesting subject the way it should be taught. Most of the teachers bother the students with this subject.Infact it could be taught entertainingly.

I have given a few programmes in convent schools, where the students loved and enjoyed my programme but the teachers were frowned upon my teaching methods. You know why???Because the students laughed a lot during my programme and the teachers envied my methods.
And perhaps due to this envy I was never invited back to the same school.I intend to serve you "a tasty english dish" here through this blog so savour it
.

*********************************************************************************************** An Erratic and Crazy English
It`s a well known fact that English is the most impressive and effective language. And it's also a fact that English is the most erratic and strange language. It's full of contradictions.Noone ever claimed in the past to be 100% perfect about spellings and pronunciations and noone can claim it now.

Not only we Indians need but the native Britons too need a dictionary beside while writing some important text. From my 2 decades experience I can say that English is really a funny language.Funny language because a senior professor with 27 years experience of teaching could not write P...{synonym of trouser}correctly in my one seminar.

He wrote 3 different spellings i.e.PENT,PANT, and PEINT. He felt highly humiliated when I corrected him before others.Guess what`s the correct one?{P....}I have observed that most of tailors write it wrongly.

In my one seminar nobody could write the correct spelling of G.....{it`s a water heating equipment kept in bathroom}and in another one students could not find a spelling pronounced by me{not spelled}from dictionary though it was there. It`s one kind of operation done to remove the baby from mother`s womb.

"Definitely" is a word most of literate people in our area write wrongly.
"COLONEL" " LIEUTENANT " " CHAUFFEUR" "CHAMPAGNE" and"SOLDIER" are glaring examples of English language`s erraticism of pronunciation.Means they are pronounced differently then what they should be.

Look at the following 5 words all with the same vowel "U" are pronounced differently.
"BUT" "BUY" "BULL" "BUREAU" "BURY"

Look at these 10 words most of people pronounce them wrongly.
"VICTUALS" "PHLEGM" "GOURMET" "ENTREE" "FAECES" "DEBUT" "DEBT" "HEIR" "EUNUCH" "CONNOISSEUR"

Ask any person from vernacular medium, the meanings of these words and they will give you wrong answer

"TELLTALE" "WALKOVER" "WINDFALL" "PIGTAIL" "GRAPEVINE"

Look at these HOMOPHONES and guess what will happen to a new learner of English who has just learned one of each pair SEVER/SAVOUR BETTER/BATTER BEAR/BARE SOW/SEW WHET/WET WEARY/WARY WRAP/RAP LAND/LEND PAINT/PANT SIGHT/CITE

This is just a small sample of English`s erratic and crazy nature.

Confidence

Simplifying confidence
Success and confidence go hand in hand.Without confidence there will be no success.Means confidence is an essential ingredient to achieve success.

Confidence springs from knowledge sp.practical one.Knowledge is an antidote to fear. But sometimes knowledge could be the cause of fear.Having good knowledge of a subject will boost our confidence.Well built body, good height, beauty, wealth, good friend circle, backing of an influencive leader.

From my own experience, the easiest methods to build one`s confidence are, walk faster, wear good clothes, maintain eye contact while talking,do some of your own work, maintain your fitness, wear good shoes, take care of your hair and face, prepare well in advance,be punctual and disciplined, speak relevant and less, hear more, respect all and discharge your duty with integrity.

Have faith in yourself and your work.

An effective teacher

An effective teacher

Teaching is a noble profession and one who desires to enter this profession must have flair for teaching.Flair means natural interest. And this flair is visible in one`s enthusiasm. The student can easily feel it.

A teacher must be a responsible person because young and curious minds rely upon his teaching. He must take care to authenticate his learning before he serves it to his students. He must update and enhance his knowledge on regular basis because knowledge is ever evolving.

Teaching should be like drizzling and not like torrential rain. The slower it falls the deeper it goes into the mind of the learner.Teaching should be done in natural surrounding because natural atmosphere is conducive to learning.

A teacher must have great sense of humour and he must have the guts to add sense of humour to his teaching.Students love to learn when taught entertainingly.

Discipline is the most essential quality of a teacher and he should practise it first and preach it later then it will be more effective.Like charity begins at home.

Politeness is the most essential quality of a good and effective teacher.Politeness will bring the students closer to him.Friendly teachers are always loved and respected by students.

A teacher must look a teacher from his dress,he must wear good clothes.Good clothes are confidence booster.

A teacher should learn to respect the individuality of his students.A good teacher always inspires and motivates his students to ask questions about their subjects.

A good teacher will always avoid giving corporal punishments to his students.Infact students`minds are delicate, curious and malleable. And he should avoid corporal punishment at all cost.

A teacher who is aware of his duty is always loved and respected by his students.
